Award-Winning Baby and Childrenswear in softest natural Pima cotton
featuring hand-smocking and exquisite character embroidery

The Concept

Mini-la-Mode is a mother and daughter company, originally founded by Fiona Drummond when she found traditional, old fashioned babywear in her attic, and felt she would love to dress her new baby in such classic, timeless style. She set about finding a way of producing charming hand-smocked, hand-embroidered baby garments on the softest easy care fabric.

Our ethos is to design and create the softest, most luxurious, classic, hand-embroidered babywear which does not date. We aim to provide perfect gifts that are affordable, high quality heirloom pieces, which can be loved, treasured and passed down.

The Inspiration

With their exquisite work, our talented artisan embroiderers bring to life classic smocking and endearing characters, from bears to boats, and kittens to koalas, including everyone’s favourite Mini-la-Mode collection, Peter Rabbit™ & Friends.

Inspired by the enchanting tales made famous by Beatrix Potter, these iconic characters are faithfully re-produced under licence (from Penguin). Each character is lovingly embroidered on our baby clothes and pyjamas, interpreting the charming illustrations which were once a happy part of so many of our childhoods.

The Cotton

Peruvian Pima is often called the ‘cashmere of cotton’, its natural fibres being luxuriously soft and breathable, making it the ideal choice for delicate newborn skin.

True Pima cotton is grown at altitude, in the Pima region of the High Andes and is hand-picked, rather than machine harvested, producing longer fibres, and resulting in an unrivalled soft and silky fabric.

Our Pima cotton is 100% OekoTex certified for its premium quality, as only the best will do. It is cultivated on traditional family farms, using ancient, sustainable, organic farming methods, which have remained unchanged for hundreds of years, vastly reducing the environmental impact of cotton production.

The Artisans

Mini-la-Mode's garments are hand-made by skilled artisans in Peru, mostly women who do exquisite embroidery, enabling those with young children to work from home and earn an income of their own. This can be a lifeline to such families, often living in socially deprived inner-city areas, especially during these challenging times.

Every step of the making of Mini-la-Mode’s special babywear and luxury childrens pyjamas incorporates Sustainable, Eco-Ethic and Fair-Trade practices.
